Astrology Modality

The Zodiac can be divided into three modalities: cardinal, fixed and mutable. These represent basic styles and states of activity.

  • Cardinal: beginning, independent, enthusiastic, unencumbered, pure. (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn)
  • Fixed: determined, persistent, stable, solid, resistant to change. (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius)
  • Mutable: flexible, resourceful, expansive, transforming. (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces)

These two concepts have an important place in Astrology and can be used in your Tarot readings. Dena DeCastro joins me to talk about these ideas relate to the Zodiac and Tarot. We apply the idea of Modality & Elements in Sample Readings.

The Tarot Court Series Intro by Ginny Hunt

This begins a five part series exploring the tarot court. Court Cards: Oh the Confusion

Tarot court cards, the Minor “people cards,” can be confusing to many tarot readers because they can and do represent so many different possible interpretations. Well, so can most of the cards, but court cards are unique because they can represent a certain individual; or they can imply a particular facet of a person, either someone else or the querant; or they can be recommending a certain kind of action; or they might be telling the querant they are displaying a certain type of behavior; or….well, you see? It can be difficult to know what to make of these folks when they show up in a reading. Read the Full Post or Visit the Series

Leslie Zemenek

The following paragraph is from Leslie’s Kabbalah class description:

“Meaning received wisdom, Kabbalah is the core of Jewish mysticism. Often referred to as the Yoga of the West, it has inspired and enlightened people from all walks of life. At its center is the Tree of Life, a cosmic blueprint of the universe which serves as a powerful and unique tool for understanding the self and the world.”

Qabalah is the spelling generally used to indicate the use of Kabbalah as an occult and practical magical system. This episode begins a conversation on what Qabalah is and why a tarot reader might be interested in learning more about the tree of life.

Crazy Talking Cards by Ginny Hunt

While there are many basic, how-to manuals on tarot reading and classes you can take, and while I’m not devaluing those at all, I have to say they just never worked so well for me. Mind you, I have entire shelf devoted to tarot books and they’ve all helped me understand various facets of tarot, but how I came to know tarot was simply by developing a relationship with the cards themselves. I say “simply” but it really isn’t all that simple. Just like any good relationship it takes time and effort and listening. It takes remembering the details and asking questions. It takes devotion and interaction on a daily basis. Read the Entire Post

Robyn Tisch-Hollister & the Tarot of the Midnight Masquerade

Once upon a time, Fortuna, also known as Lady Luck, threw a masked ball for all the people she knew. Something wonderful and magical and mysterious will happen when the clock strikes Midnight.

Robyn created her first tarot at the young age of 11 and started reading professionally at 14. Robyn is a Freelance Artist, Actress, Writer, Designer, Psychic and Tarot Reader. She loves costume and theater and has been know to dress as a pirate. Robyn has created a number of Tarot Decks and Oracles including:

They all have very interesting stories which Robyn shares with us. The Minute Deck was born from a creative block while working on the Tarot of the Midnight Masquerade. Each card was drawn and colored in under 5 minutes. I’m impressed with how much Tarot Iconography Robyn has assimilated.

The theme of the Tarot of the Midnight Masquerade deck comes from her love of Mardi Gras and Carnival. She has been a costumer, mask-maker and puppet-maker for over 15 years. Each card depicts a scene of guests arriving, or other things that are happening during the course of the evening, leading up to Midnight.

You can read more about these decks at Aeclectic Tarot. (All Hallows) (Minute Tarot) (Midnight Masquerade Majors) (Midnight Masquerade Minors)

The Blues in Tarot by Ginny Hunt

Tarot encompasses the wide range of human experience and emotion, and as such there are a number of cards where the blues are depicted, but the one I feel most singularly represents the emotional landscape of the blues is the Five of Cups. … To tell people to stop feeling their pain is insensitive at best. To try and move them along to a place where you would feel more comfortable being with them is usually the disguised motivation. Why don’t we just tell those slaves of long ago who first sang the blues to just look on the bright side, then? As I’ve said before, you can’t run from grief. It dogs your every step until you sit with it. It commands your attention, your full attention, for a time. A funny thing happens when we finally sit down with our grief, or the grief of someone you know. It passes more quickly than if we attempt to push it away too soon. There is a time for sad songs and an appreciation of the emotions that create those melodies. Read the Entire Post
