How much should I charge for doing Tarot Card readings?
All about online psychics, best psychics on line, phone tarot readings and more
I just started reading Tarot Cards today. I’m not very good yet and let’s be honest I pretty much just make it up as I go. I’m wondering how much I should charge and if you think it’s a good idea to do readings for my friends and family. Serious responses only please I really think this may be my new calling in life!

$10 is the going rate at county fairs around here
If people buy into that kind of thing, take them for all you can.
it’s a bit unethical, but go ahead and rob the gullible suckers out of as much as you can.
They all make it up. Charge the going rate.
Don’t charge
I wouldn’t charge people until you are confident with what you are doing and you are not making it up. I have been reading cards on and off for a few years and I still don’t charge people. Once you know how to read them properly and you are experienced, an average cost for a reading is anywhere from $25-50 depending on the length of the reading and if you use any other divination tools ( crystals, palm reading, tea leaf reading, etc.)
well since it’s all made up, charge the going rate.
Charging money would imply you are an expert and know what you are doing.
thats alla bunch of crap…. iva had one friend that had been told a lie and that stupid person was nearly sues. they teall you BS just for a couple of bucks….

Not to be mean or anything, but I bet you probably bought your tarot card set in the Barnes and Noble bargain section. Anyway, if that is the case, I say you make your money back with each reading. I’d say charge seven dollars. Poser…
OK, I was going to answer until you said we had to be serious, now I have nothing!
Yeah, you really found your calling. Making people pay for a load of shit that you "make up as you go". Too bad your family is going to have to listen to it…i pity them…and you.
Since this is in the R&S section and not something like employment, I shall show you a scripture =)
Deuteronomy 18:10-12
"There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, 11 or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead."
It is a serious response.
If lying to people is your life calling, that is pretty low. A lot of people actually believe in tarot and make serious life decisions based on a reading. Do you want to be responsible for maybe ruining another persons life just because you think it is fun?
You shouldn’t charge anything at all. First of all, you don’t know what you’re doing yet. Second, anything based in spirituality or religion should always be free.
dude, you are gonna make a shitload of money!
tell people what they want to hear and they’ll comeback
i would suggest a good 20 bucks a reading
You make it up as you go?
HAHAHAHAHAAAAAH!
Well, at least you ADMIT it.
Not that I condone Tarot card usage, but if you’re serious then you can just look up what others are charging in your area and come up with your own competitive price.
Forget tarot cards, play three card monty, you’ll make more money.
. . . where’s the queen . .where’s the queen . .
I wouldn’t charge Money when you start off, since your a beginner in the craft, I would charge Later on though as you get good At it…. probably 20 dollars but not now, since your new to it, Add me as a contact appartnley your wicca/witch? cool i’m learning all that and wanna learn tarot card reading too, good luck Oh also send me an emil anytime if you need help i’ve never messed around with those since my parents are religious but when i’m old enough and out on my own i will!:)
Just a precautionary tip here, if you dabble in the occult reading tarot cards or playing with a Ouija Board you get a prize from satan himself.
demons will come on you and your life will be worse then it ever was before.
So keep this in mind that the price for each reading will be one more demon gets on you.
What price is your soul?
Think about it and please chose life over demons.
You will regret it for the rest of your life.
$25.00 for basic Reading
$75.00 for Comprehensive Reading
i suggest you actually put a lot of time, effort, and research int tarot card reading before you even think about charging someone for a reading.
it may just be a phase for you…. a lot of ppl go through this phase and end up not going anywhere. you have to be really into the subject and willing to spend a lot of time learning and practicing.
one of the main reasons i like doing tarot card readings is because i am very into psychology and it’s a big part of reading the cards for ppl. mostly what makes tarot card readings work is the fact that they are archetypes of what happens in most peoples lives at some point so they will be able to relate depending on how you spin it. it takes practice. another thing that is crucial to tarot card readings is knowing symbolism. so you can interpret the cards, don’t just get symbol definitions from one place, look at many.
i saw one lady charge up to $60 dollars for a reading which i think is incredibly high.
so anyways, don’t charge people, do it for free to get some practice, and when you get good enough start charging small fees.
You know I just wanted to put my two cents in here, all in peace of course. I’ve been studying tarot for years and only recently began researching charging people for it because it is a very heartfelt thing that takes much energy and concentration. I’ve noticed that many people who have posted here were in anger or to preach, but I wanted to let you spacifically know that those that truely understand the tarot, how it works or even the craft know what they are doing and have wonderful insite into things. You may be suprized at the people that I have done tarot for. Many people look to it or to other methods when there is no where else who can give answers, so I find it interesting that those that have posted here may very well one day find themselves in a similar situation.
I truely mean no harm in this, I only feel sad that people seek to tear others down so much or call them wrong and silly.
All things are possible within your beliefs, if you truely believe in demons, you will find them. If you truely beleive in angels, you will see them. If you truely beleive in you, You will move mountains. So peace be with you all, and seek out that which you know if that is what you are comfortable with, for those who seek the unknown, let your heart guild you and you may well be surprized.
But either way believe in something, for your beleive is your fuel.
And thank you for the preachers, I know your only concern is in our souls, I appreciate your concern.
I know this is an old question, but I wanted to give an answer for those that come to this page with the same question as the original poster. First I want to address the misconception that taror card readers are all scammers, and that we all “make it up”. we most certianly do not. There are many many good reputable readers out there, and it’s unfortunate that the ones who ARE scamming people give us a bad name. It’s one thing if you don’t believe in tarot, and I respect that, but If you don’r believe in it have respect for the people who are serious about it. The original posteer said they were making it up, so if that’s the case they should not even be reading for people if the are making up things. You mist learn the meaning of the cards, and how to interpret the cards. Now to the question of how much you should charge for your readings. I can say that I have been reading tarot for eight years for friends and family, an only recently do I feel comfortable, and confident enough in my abilities to begin charging people for my card reading services. I dont think there is a magic number of when you should start charging, but you must have the confidence in yourself. I am of the belief of not charging too much for my readings. I want to make it acessable and affordable for everyone to get thier cards read. I just began making readings available at my online store, and here is what I charge. For a full 20 card spread I charge $19.99. For a three card past, present, and future reading it’s $5.99, and for a one card reading, I charge $2.99. I hope I have helped some people out with my answer.
I use a tip jar myself , i tell clients that they are wlecome to leave a tip of any amount they feel wish to give
i find it more rewarding this way as they are left happy and im getting to do what i love. Sometimes you may only get a couple of dollars but hey each to thier own.
As for the comments about “making it all up” Tarot isnt made up a tarot reader is doing just that “READING THE CARDS” ! each card has a meaning and we simply lay the cards out and pass the meaning on , people who come for a reading come for some insight, we are not legal advise, medical prof or realationship experts and i advise mt clients this at every reading.
As for the comment about “ruining another persons life” I dont see how you would get that idea? Like i just said we “READ THE CARDS” we dont give advise of any kind , each person in this life makes thier own choices. If someone wants a tarot reading they can dont judge people on what they choose to do.
Blessed be xx
Treat the Tarot with respect and out of repect for others how can you possibly charge.
True Readers have a calling to do so and know in their hearts that they can read and learn that the cards are the teacher and these Seers and Mystics read to serve the Creator.
The language of the Tarot is not conversational but must not be too cryptic either and that is the mark of a genuine reader.
Please try not to dabble in it as a hobby a reading can help some people who are searching for a meaningful answer.
I agree with Ashley and Belladonna, a true reader will READ the cards. There is more to it than just buying a deck and readng the manual it comes with. A deck of cards chooses you. It’s a relationship. It takes time to become a good reader. As far as charging, I agree that you mustn’t charge until you are completely comfortable and confident. Charging provides the readee with a sense of it being professional, however, the amount is not set in stone. I like the idea of a tip jar, because, it’s a win-win situation. It’s acknowledging it’s a professional reading, yet provides the readee with a sense of control.
i agree with everyone who says that you should practice, learn, and build cofindence and ability before you charge. if you start charging and “make it up as you go”, people will eventually become aware and stop coming to you and then where will you be? tarot takes years of experience to perfect and then there will always be new things to learn. instead of charging your family and friends, use them for practice and ask them for their honest opinion of how each reading goes and learn what you need to improve.
as for the ones saying satan and demons will come upon you, and trying to imply that your selling your soul should learn to respect others beliefs and learn a lil about what they are saying. because most people who use the cards do not believe in satan or a devil. and just a piece of advise, if you are doing this just for a hobby please be clear to those you are doing a reading for and let them know it is for entertainment purposes only. hope this helped.
