Astrological progressions are a technique that looks at the chart from your birth date and calculates what is happening to you now. Secondary progressions, which are used by almost all Western Astrologers, can be traced all the way back to the 16th century.
With secondary progressions, each year in life equates to the same number of days after your birth. For example, if you are 20 years old, look at the planets 20 days after birth. These would be your progressed planets for that time. Progressions reflect major life changes, and usually require a computer program to calculate them, as they are constantly changing.
The progressed Moon is especially important in secondaries and can often point to the sorts of experiences that you are currently gravitating towards and the types of exchanges you will come across.
I don't know of any free Astrology service that will compute your progressions, but if you like, provide your date, time and locations and I will run them through my computer.
Steven Forrest has a wonderful book that talks about progressions called the 'The Changing Sky'. It's very readable and I recommend it.
