Why exactly do so many teenage girls believe themselves to be psychics?

Seriously, I know they’re supposed to have personal fables at their age but this is ridiculous, I keep on hearing "OMG! Am I a psychic or what?" questions on Yahoo! Psychology. Is this some Twilight fad or is it some mental condition?

i think they haven’t learned about coincidence, much less odds.
and it is something exciting to talk about.
It’s the same reason why people believe they are mythical creatures. I guess they just want to have psychic powers so bad that they start to believe that they actually have it, using any random occurrences as proof of their abilities.
They also wan’t to feel special and get attention.

It is all due to severe changes in mind and body.while emerging age teenagers girls get more emotional disturbances than boys.it is due rapid releases of various endocrine hormones like growth hormone estrogen etc.Menarche also influeces moods in girls they feel it bothering for some time.it depends on how best they adapt to rapid changes in their body.Mano
personally i think a lot of it has to do with not knowing a whole lot about psychics, it’s also the need to believe you as special (age specific), and yeah.. i blame Twilight

i honestly believe that there are the occasional girls that develop the “6th sense” yah sure the whole twilight thing has gotten out of hand but we have to really think that there are possibilities..i mean we can not judge without experiencing it for ourselves. Have any of us been able to connect with that part of our brains? And who are we to say that they can’t..in this day and age anything is possible.
